HISTORY OF THE CORAKI RURAL TRANSACTION CENTRE INC

The Coraki Rural Transaction Centre Inc. was established in 2003 when after many years of hard work and lobbying by the Coraki Progress Association and the community, a Federal Government Seed Grant was secured to purchase and refurbish the building at 121 Richmond Terrace Coraki. The three-shopfront building was refurbished to house the CRTC, a pizzeria and a much needed doctor’s surgery. A condition of the grant was that the CRTC had to be a not for profit, self-sustainable business. A committee of passionate and dedicated local people oversees the CRTC.

As well as being a Centrelink access point the CRTC provides computer and internet access, printing, scanning, photocopying and laminating services for the community at low cost. The CRTC also funds the Coraki District News, a bi-monthly newsletter and donates to local community and sporting groups. The Coraki Events Group now operates under the umbrella of the CRTC as well.

The CRTC is staffed by volunteers and over the last 14 years there have been many wonderful local people who have dedicated their time and effort to keeping the CRTC operational. The pizzeria has changed over the years and now is a fabulous café/restaurant and the old doctors surgery is an eclectic 2nd hand furniture shop.
